Getting Resistant Substance Using Individuals into Treatment by Working with Their Loved Ones

Dr. Meyers has worked in the addiction field for 44 years. Many of those years were devoted to designing and conducting research at the University of New Mexico’s Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, and Addictions. Since retiring from UNM he has served as the Director of Robert J. Meyers, Ph.D. & Associates. His business involves training substance abuse therapists around the world to do several scientifically-supported behavioral treatments: Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA), the adolescent version of CRA (A-CRA), and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT). Dr. Meyers developed the highly successful CRAFT program as a way to engage resistant substance abusing individuals into treatment by working through their loved ones. Dr. Meyers’ CRAFT program was one of the 14 featured segments of the Emmy Award-winning HBO Addiction series. Dr. Meyers’ work also has been featured in Oprah magazine.

Robert Meyers is an internationally known speaker who has trained therapists in 39 states and in 15 countries. He has published over 100 scientific articles or chapters and co-authored 5 books. Several of these books are available in Dutch, Finnish, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.
