Project Title:
Body Image of Mothers and Their Preadolescent Daughters

Purpose of the Study:
People in the United States are extremely conscious of weight and body shape, and some studies have shown that this preoccupation develops in girls at a young age. Severe body dissatisfaction can be a risk factor for the development of eating disorders. The purpose of our study is to better understand how both mothers and their daughters feel about their bodies, and how this relates to their eating habits, relationships, and self-esteem.
Protocol Summary:
The study consists of you and your daughter independently completing questionnaires online while being part of a Zoom session. Questions will mainly cover body image, eating habits, mood, and interpersonal relations. Participation will take place remotely (online, Zoom). For this reason, you will need a device with internet access (computer, tablet, smartphone).The study will take up to 1½ hours.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
Mothers and their 9-11 year old, 4th-5th grade daughters are invited to participate in this study. Internet access is necessary in order to participate.
Compensation:
The study will take up to 1½ hours, for which you will be compensated with merchandise cards (e.g., from Target): $20 for you and $10 for your daughter.

Project Title:
Noninvasively Modulating Motivational Brain Regions

Purpose of the Study:
The purpose of the study is to characterize and stimulate the brain regions underlying motivated decision making.
Protocol Summary:
There is an initial phone screening which can be scheduled through phone or email below to determine eligibility. The study requires 2 sessions of 5 hours and 4 hours, scheduled at least a day apart. Participation would include two MRI scans of 1-2 hours and brain stimulation through TMS.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
Must be between 18 and 55 years of age. Other eligibility determined via phone screening.
Compensation:
Participants will receive $30 per hour of participant in the form of a payment card.

Project Title:
Validating Reward and Relief Drinking Phenotypes: A Multimethod Assessment

Purpose of the Study:
This study is evaluating situations and emotions that lead to drinking.
Protocol Summary:
The study involves four phases: (1) completion of an online screening survey, (2) participation in a one- to two-hour virtual session (over Zoom) where you will answer questionnaires and interviews, (3) completion of brief surveys on a smartphone three times a day for three weeks, and (4) participation in a brief (15- to 30-minute) virtual session where you will answer questionnaires.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
We are currently seeking regular drinkers who are over the age of 18 to participate in a study evaluating situations and emotions that lead to drinking.
Compensation:
You will be paid up to $112 for approximately 5 to 10 hours of your time.

Project Title:
Attitudes, Beliefs, Experiences, and Behaviors of Students

Purpose of the Study:
It is clear that attitudes, beliefs, and experiences affect mental health, well-being, and behaviors. However, it is not always clear how and what attitudes, beliefs, and experiences may affect these most strongly and if this impacts all groups equally. The purpose of this study is to understand more clearly the links between these in students.
Protocol Summary:
Participants will take an online survey about their attitudes, beliefs, experiences, mental health, wellbeing, and behaviors as well as some background information including gender, race, and ethnicity.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
Must be 18 years old or older.
Compensation:
You would earn 2 credits in SONA for filling out the online questionnaire that would take up to 2 hours. Once you have signed up, you will receive a link to consent for the study. Once you have consented, you will receive an ID and the link to complete the initial survey.

Project Title:
The Effect of Cognitive and Personality Characteristics on English and Logic Task Performance

Purpose of the Study:
The overarching goal of this study is to understand how individual cognitive and personality traits, such as how one thinks about their own thinking and makes decisions, impact performance in two different domains (logic and English grammar).
Protocol Summary:
The Attention Lab is seeking participants for a research study looking at how personality and cognitive traits influence grammar and logic task performance. If you are interested in participating, you’ll complete cognitive and personality surveys and a grammar and a logic questionnaire. This study is conducted completely online and is expected to last 2 hours. You will be awarded 1 research credit for each hour you participate.

Brain, Behavior, and Personality

Purpose of the Study:
The Mind Research Network is looking for healthy individuals to participate in our brain imaging research studies.
Protocol Summary:
Qualifying individuals will be asked to complete interviews, paper and pencil tests, questionnaires, and MRI scans. All tests are noninvasive and safe, and you can choose to quit the study at any time.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:

Cognitive Neuroscience of Reward

Purpose of the Study:
The purpose of the study, Cognitive Neuroscience of Reward, is to look at the brain’s response to reward information in both depressed and non-depressed participants.
Protocol Summary:
Answer questionnaires about mood and feelings;Complete a brief confidential interview about mood and feelings;Play simple learning video games for rewarding outcomes;Have your brain activity monitored through either a scalp electrodes (EEG) method, or in machines that can measure magnetic activity (MEG) or blood flow (MRI). Each method is very safe.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility includes men or women aged 18-55. Participants also need to either meet criteria for depression, or are free from depressive symptoms to qualify as a control; and free from psychoactive medication for at least two weeks.
Compensation:
Participants will be compensated $20 to $30 per hour depending on the study being run at that time.

The purpose of this experiment is to explore and understand the neural circuits underlying reward-guided decision making.
Protocol Summary:
There is an initial phone screening which can be scheduled through phone or email below to determine eligibility. The study takes 2.5-5 hours and is done within the Mind Research Network (MRN) facility on North Campus.
Basic Eligibility Criteria:
Must be between 18 and 55 years of ageOther eligibility determined via phone screening.
